Taupo Lakes and Waterways Event 7th October

10 September 2015

AgResearch scientist Dr Stewart Ledgard is presenting at Taupo advocacy group Lakes and Waterways’ public event October 7th on ‘Environmental Impacts of Farm System Options from Pasture to Plate’

Dr Ledgard’s research is part of a ‘Green Growth’ study exploring specific attributes of New Zealand primary produce contributing to their provenance and perception both locally and internationally.

The study explored the ability of a nutrient-capped farm in the Taupo Catchment to brand their product and maximise their return on investment.  To help with this, farm and value chain models were designed and used.

“The models were based on Mike and Sharon Barton’s farm and their value-added ‘Taupo Beef’ brand”, says Dr Ledgard. “However we expanded out the study to look at a variety of breeding and finishing options relating to meeting the requirements of the Lake Taupo Variation cap.”

The findings are fascinating. If you have an interest in water quality, nutrient capping, and the consequent impact on farm profitability, this presentation will be very helpful.

Mike and Sharon Barton will also give an update on ‘Taupo Beef Grown Right Here’.

All are welcome to attend at the Taupo Women’s Club, Story Place, and Wednesday October 7th at 5.30 pm.
